Day Five!!! Now featuring some of the suitcase fam in the wilderness!!

Haven't drawn Click in a while, but I'm glad I can still draw him well!! Marcus lent the scarf to him temporarily cuz he was going to stay in the wilderness almost all day,, cant let him get too cold!! (even if he's a ghost😭)

Sonetto and Vertin encounter a mysterious snowman out in the wilderness, which Vertin gladly adds the finishing touch!! (The suitcase kids made it early in the morning, using some plants provided by miss Druvis :D )

Poor Zima was woken up,, he needs some shut-eye sometimes😞

I have no idea what heights are in Reverse 1999, but I always imagine Vertin as the "average" height. Matilda is on the shorter side meaning she is shorter than Vertin, while Sonetto is on the tall side and is slightly taller than Vertin. (Matilda < Vertin < Sonetto)

That being said, I think it'd be fun if Vertin has a growth spurt as she gets older and becomes a person that looms over the rest (like Windsong).

Madam will and TF will still treat her a like Smoltin even though she's these taller than them. Constantine hates she has to look up into Vertin's eyes instead of down on her.

Vertin's height, big coat (TF and Madam Z have big coats, their daughter should have one too), and hat make her look menacing until you realize she is still Smoltin inside. Also that eepy face doesn't really seem that mean when you get a good look at it.

Vertin has more access to heads to pat this way too.

Vertin being able to carry an injured arcanist across her back and another under each arm like a firefighter to safety while Sonetto and the team fight off baddies. I can see it and it's glorious.

A smaller Vertin seems very cuddly, but looming Vertin is growing on me. Also Sonetto is the big guard dog now, in the future she can embrace full puppy hood without guilty. She will be scooped and coddled!

Although I guess Vertin already showed us she can do that on the island? We've seen her carry a few people now...

Sonetto doesn’t have an Insight 2 because her interaction in book 4 is about how she’s struggling between staying true to herself and loyal to what made her into that person (The Foundation).

Sonetto is actually a very good anchor to tell what point the story events happens at. Greenlake for example happens at an unknown time after the current books using Sonetto's loyalty to the Foundation as a landmark. She's no longer blindly loyal to The Foundation and bends her loyalty to them in the same way Vertin does. Instead, she let's certain things go by as long as they don't have the potential to harm others because both of their loyalties aren't in the Foundation anymore. They're working for them out of convenience, it's all they know, the Manus is worse (even to other arcanists), and the Foundation has more numbers than going independent.

.... yep, this is how the crew and the other people interact with Sonetto (now that she has two bitches nagging her)

Sonetto still wants to drown herself in Arcana's ink but she sets it aside for another day (but she's close to doing it when Constantine annoys her more than Arcana could)

I love the idea of Kakania inviting Sonetto for some sessions to help her and instead it's Arcana comforting Kakania after mentioning Isolde. Whose therapy session is this?

Madam Z has always taken good care of Sonetto when she was young, she and Vertin were some of the kids she seemed to care the most about. Meanwhile Tooth Fairy didn't see Sonetto often but she cares about her too ✋😞

Love how everyone cares for Sonetto to the point of helping her with Arcana's annoyance and Constantine's abuse so much. Even if Regulus doesn't help much there.

She has good friends, I love it. And Arcana who probably isn't as bothersome sometimes.

Did the Foundation not care to collect what was left of her friends? Vertin looks out into the fields. She stands, upwards, slipping the rusted bangle into her wrist. With a certain desperation— of a girl chasing after the ashes of the dead— she stumbles into the grass, hands parting the collected blades, eyes darting over— here, there, left, right, up, down, she combs through every square inch of the field.

cooked up a mediocre fanfic idea (vertin × schneider × sonetto [would’ve included matilda, but.. 4 year age gap between matilda and schneider. yeesh.])

schneider, vertin and sonetto are all going to some fancy event thing— so, they all need to dress up real nice.

schneider and sonetto end up in the same changing room (oh boy..). gay stuff happens man idk (maybe something along the lines of “you’re dressed inappropriately” “i don’t mind, and i don’t think tk does either” “..does timekeeper really like,,?” “women?? sí, of course. now lets get you a dress that’ll catch her eyes”)

I think I change my answer every time I think about this but since we have a better idea of Vertin's habits I'm going to see if I can conjure an actual answer (although I do love making her a gremlin)

"Hangover" Theory

Vertin takes naps as evidenced by her interaction with Ms. Radio at the end of Notes of Shuori. There are many lines pointing to Vertin being a night owl as well as her own lines from the beginning of the game with Regulus. She's up late all the time.

Poltergeist mentions Vertin mumbles in her sleep too. It seems like when she does try to sleep properly at night, it's not a peaceful rest. It sounds like Vertin has nightmares and also trouble falling asleep in the first place at night. Tooth Fairy offers lullabies, Yenisei offers advice to help her, and other members are aware she's awake and seek her out.

However, we see she also ends up working lots of overtime. If she's not doing official work, then she is busy getting pulled into her crew members antics or checking up on them.

I think the Picrasma candy helps Vertin get through the day. Instead of a rush, it looks like she's functioning "normally." But what if she eats too much?

Hangover.

The key ingredients of Picrasma candy are cane sugar, Picrasma plant, and alcohol!

That could be where the naps come from too. She crashes hard due to pushing her body past its limits and that's why her crew finds her napping at random times. Another thing to note is the her confusion and disorientation when she woke up from her long nap during Notes of Shuori. She's very out of it, which sort of aligns with the hangover theory.

If she already has a sleep deficit/poor quality sleep, she's more likely to experience symptoms of a hangover too. It's an unhealthy cycle.

We see that her crew takes good care of her! I think Vertin's sleep issues are well-known, but the potential Picrasma Candy dependency is not something their privy to yet. They Vertin eats a lot of candy, but that's where it ends.

Now if they DO find out the cause, that may change things.

However, the candy isn't the root of the problem. Vertin's packed schedule, responsibilities, and insomnia/restless sleep are.

Well, this is a dark answer to a silly and light-hearted question. I'm sorry vertiir, the game do be torturing Vertin for funsies 💀

On the bright side, maybe some of the other arcanists decide to join her for a nap and their presence keeps the nightmares away! We will find a silver lining somewhere!

Call me a degenerate but I cannot get the idea for a Hetalia x Reverse: 1999 crossover angsty one shot out of my head.

Specifically when Vertin goes to raid The Walden and runs into a 1920s’ America and then when shit hits the fan we see the effect of the stock market crash in real time.

Then he and Forget Me Not have a stand-off or some shit while Vertin and Schneider just watch. Arcana’s there too idk.
